Quasimoto first came to life on Madlib's personal beat tapes in the producerâs early years in Oxnard CA - private music, not meant for release, made for himself and a small circle of local smokers and their car stereos.
The âbad characterâ MC alter ego of producer Madlib, Quasimoto released two albums on Stones Throw in the early 2000s: the underground hip-hop cult classic âThe Unseenâ (2000) and âThe Further Adventures of Lord Quasâ (2005).
âThe Unseenâ was among the new decadeâs first sleeper hits, ranking on Spinâs year end list at a time when the producer and label were unknown outside hip-hop DJ circles. âThe Further Adventures of Lord Quasâ continued to build Madlibâs reputation as one of the most creative and fearlessly skewed creators in hip-hop.
In addition to his work as a solo artist, Madlib has collaborated with Four Tet, Freddie Gibbs, J Dilla (as Jaylib), and most famously with MF DOOM (as Madvillain).
âYessir Whateverâ collects 12 Quasimoto tracks recorded over a roughly twelve-year period.Â
The album is now released in a new silver vinyl edition, with a silver foil peel-off sticker revealing Quasimotoâs guts.
Tracklist:
Broad Factor
Seasons Change
The Front
Youngblood
Astronaut
Planned Attack
Brothers Canât See Me
Catchinâ The Vibe
Am I Confused?
