Lou Bond may have released just one album, but it stands as a singular achievement in Memphis soul. Originally issued in 1974, Lou Bond blends politically charged lyricism with intimate, introspective songwriting—drawing comparisons to Eugene McDaniels’ Headless Heroes of the Apocalypse and Outlaw, but marked by a gentler, haunting sensitivity.

Bond’s expressive falsetto and acoustic guitar recall Bill Withers at his most vulnerable (he covers Withers’ ‘Let Me into Your Life’), while lush orchestration channels the spirit of What’s Going On. It's an album that defies easy categorisation—idiosyncratic, soulful, and quietly radical.

This all-analog reissue was cut directly from the original tapes by Well Made Music and pressed at Gotta Groove Records. Sampled by Outkast and Mary J. Blige, Lou Bond is a deeply influential and too-often overlooked masterpiece of 1970s soul.
